“bah," said Scrooge, "humbug.”
the one thing we have learned after all these years is you never know where this job will take you... one moment you'll be in the office doing the day-to-day, and at a phone's notice you'll find yourself in front of an emmy award winning director-producer-actor. this just happened to us a few days before christmas!
we received a call from a public safety friend of ours asking if we'd be interested in doing a promotional photo with ebenezer scrooge and his police officer k9 partner Matte. how could we say no to that? i think paula had one foot out the door before we got off the phone!
apparently, every year, k9 matte and his owner stage a photo for their local charity, the "orange santa fund". paula and i were to meet him for dress rehearsal, at the side door of northampton's academy of music, and to be ready for a quick photo session.
so, there we were, all five us sitting in the auditorium, watching the dress rehearsal unfold and about half-hour later, ebenezer was calling matte for his big photo shoot. we hit the stage; matte's owner put on his police badge and in all of thirty seconds it was over.
as it turns-out, ebenezer scrooge was being played by michael haley, well known for his work in charlie wilson's war, groundhog day, analyze this, postcards from the edge and so many more. he also won a primetime emmy for angels in america... who knew?
... secretly, we couldn't help but thinking we were only one person away from meeting julia roberts, tom hanks, bill murray, jude law, bobby de niro (yeah, we can call him that now) and john travolta :) you never know.
many thanks to clay, melissa, and matte for thinking to include us, it's a night we won't forget soon!
the "santa fund" is sponsored by the pioneer junior women's club and helps less-fortunate children during the holiday season. if you would like to help, contributions can be made and sent to:
